I feel I will stay with it and have it copied for my next bass. I had a good number of conversations with the guy who made my current pick up ( which followed the one that was in the bass initially and was not right) before we landed on the current one. It also seems to help if you are able to try a good number of pick ups or to work with a manufacturer "towards" YOUR pick up. There are soo many pickups out there that it really helps to know as specifically as possible what it is you are after. I now get the same tone from the bass wether it is plugged in or not. I tried different pick ups, but this one is the first one I don't notice.( if this makes sense). I have found a pickup that sounds very "open " and which simply seems to amplify what's there rather than lending a specific colour to the tone. I like the open tone one can get from certain single coils but did not want the noise problem. ![]() The downside to using the parallel resistor modification is that when you switch to the middle position that uses both the single-coil. This modification is quick and easy to complete, as you can see in Figure 3. ![]() ![]() It has the shape of a J style pick up ( coils are "stacked" on top of each other). The parallel resistor modification uses 500k pots for humbuckers but uses a resistor to make the single coil use a 250k load.
